The piece attempts to present the woman in the Middle East, her social
depression, and limitations imposed upon her by social order and
tradition. A group of women sift wool, as they have done for thousands
of years traditionally. I have tried to turn this domestic work into a
ritual, where woman’s inner world and spiritual depression are shown as
interwoven symbols. It is as if these women are whipping themselves,
their world. Performers are not actors. They are simple elderly
grandmothers...
